Here's a sentence you probably didn't expect to read today: you can support your public library by eating a burger and arguing about whether Bohemian Rhapsody came out in '75 or '76.
Starting March 15, Moran's Pub — the Milwaukee Ave institution that's been a South Milwaukee gathering spot since 1995 — is hosting a 4-week trivia tournament to raise money for the library referendum campaign. Four Sundays. Four themes. One grand champion. And a whole lot of fun for a cause that matters.
The Lineup
Week 1: Music Trivia · March 15
Music history, artists, albums, and lyrics. From vinyl deep cuts to guilty pleasure pop. If you've ever won an argument about a song at a party, this is your week.
Week 2: Sports Trivia · March 22
It's March Madness season, so basketball is front and center — but expect local sports, general athletics, and a few curveballs. Brewers fans and Packers encyclopedias, your time has come.
Week 3: Movie Trivia · March 29
Oscars season deep cuts. Film history, actors, directors, and awards. If you know the difference between Best Picture and Best Director for 1994, you're ready.
Week 4: Family Trivia · April 5
Disney, Pixar, and family-friendly entertainment. This one's accessible for all ages — bring the kids, bring the grandparents, bring everyone. It's two days before the vote, and it's the perfect way to close out the series.
All sessions run 2:00 – 5:00 PM at Moran's Pub, 912 Milwaukee Ave in South Milwaukee.
More Than Just Trivia
The tournament is the centerpiece, but there's more going on every Sunday:
- 50/50 Raffle — every week. Buy a ticket, split the pot with the campaign.
- 15% of food sales donated by Moran's Pub during each event. That's right — Moran's is putting their money where their mouth is (literally). Order lunch, support the library.
- Weekly winners take home prizes each Sunday.
- Grand prize for the overall tournament champion across all four weeks.
So even if trivia isn't your thing, you can still contribute just by showing up and ordering some food. Every plate helps.
Why a Pub?
Because that's how South Milwaukee works. The best community organizing happens where people already gather — and Moran's has been that place for three decades. It's where you celebrate after the softball game, where you catch up with old friends, where you grab lunch on a lazy Sunday. It's a natural home for a campaign that's all about neighbors showing up for each other.
Moran's didn't have to do this. They chose to. They donated the space, they're donating a cut of their sales, and they're giving the campaign a stage to build energy heading into the final stretch before April 7. That's a local business investing in its community in the most direct way possible.
Bring a Team. Or Don't.
You can come with a full squad or show up solo and join a table. The point isn't to win (though winning is fun). The point is to spend a Sunday afternoon doing something enjoyable that also happens to support the most important vote in South Milwaukee this spring.
Four Sundays. Four chances to show up. And if you come to all four, you might just take home the grand prize.
The referendum vote is April 7. The trivia tournament starts March 15. Between now and then, every dollar raised and every conversation started brings us closer to a library with the funding it needs.
So grab your team, brush up on your music history, and we'll see you at Moran's.
